PTSD & Trauma

Healing from trauma can feel overwhelming, especially when past experiences continue to surface in ways you can’t always predict or control. Trauma often leaves us with thoughts and emotions that don’t seem to “fit” anywhere, making it easy to feel stuck, on edge, or disconnected from yourself.

Many people try to push painful memories away, hoping avoidance will bring relief. Unfortunately, the opposite often happens — the more we try not to think about it, the harder it becomes to move forward.

Trauma work is one of our core specialties. In therapy, we create a safe, grounded space to gently explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you. Together, we can process what happened so you can reconnect with the present and reclaim a sense of safety, empowerment, and hope for the future.

Living with anxiety or depression can make everyday life feel heavier than it should. You may find yourself overwhelmed by worries, trapped in cycles of overthinking, or feeling disconnected from things that used to bring you joy. For many, these experiences create a sense of isolation — like you’re carrying something no one else can see, but it still affects everything.

Trying to push through on your own often leads to more frustration, and it’s common to wonder why it feels so hard to just “snap out of it.”

Therapy provides a space to slow down and explore what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we will identify the patterns, pressures, and emotions that are keeping you stuck, while building practical tools to help you feel more grounded, capable, and in control.

Family Conflict

Family relationships can be one of our greatest sources of support — but when conflict arises, they can also become a source of stress, frustration, and emotional distance. Miscommunication, hurt feelings, or unresolved issues can build up over time, leaving us feeling misunderstood and disconnected.

Many individuals try to manage it on their own, hoping things will “blow over,” only to find that the same arguments keep resurfacing.

Individual therapy provides a safe space to explore your experiences, understand your role in recurring patterns, and develop strategies to manage tension more effectively. By reflecting on your feelings and responses, you can gain clarity, set healthy boundaries, and approach family dynamics with greater confidence and calm.

Therapy Styles and Approaches

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a reflective, insight-oriented approach that helps you understand how past experiences, patterns, and emotions influence your current thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. Often, the challenges we face today are connected to unresolved experiences from the past, and exploring these connections can bring clarity and lasting change.

In therapy, we work together to uncover unconscious patterns, gain insight into recurring challenges, and understand the emotions that drive your behavior. This process can help you recognize long-standing patterns, improve relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping with stress, conflict, and life transitions.

Family Systems Therapy

Family Systems Therapy is based on the idea that we don’t exist in isolation — our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are shaped by the relationships we’re part of. Rather than focusing on one person as “the problem,” this approach looks at patterns within families, couples, or close relationships and how those dynamics impact everyone involved.

In family systems work, challenges like conflict, anxiety, communication breakdowns, or repeated cycles often make sense when viewed in the context of roles, boundaries, and learned ways of relating. Therapy focuses on increasing awareness of these patterns, improving communication, and helping individuals and families create healthier, more supportive ways of connecting.

Please note: While these are the primary therapeutic frameworks we work from, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. We tailor our approach to each client’s unique needs, goals, and preferences, which means we may thoughtfully draw from a range of therapeutic modalities as your work evolves.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first session focuses on understanding your concerns, gathering background information, and determining the best approach moving forward. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss your goals.
Can my teen attend therapy on their own?
In Pennsylvania, 14-year-olds are able to sign their own consents and make decisions regarding their mental health. Therapy with adolescents often involves the parents and can help bridge the gaps that often form as your teen navigates increased independence and responsibility. We strive to respect your child's privacy and confidentiality while also ensuring the whole family can benefit from involvement in therapeutic services.
How long does therapy take?

Therapy length varies based on your goals, the concerns you’re working on, and your progress. Some clients attend for a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. Your clinician will discuss a personalized treatment plan with you.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes — in general, everything you share in sessions is kept strictly confidential under Pennsylvania law. Your privacy is protected, and therapy records are not released without your consent.

There are a few important exceptions where disclosure is legally or ethically required:

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, dependent, or vulnerable adult.

  • Imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or others.

  • Court orders requiring disclosure of records or testimony.

Outside of these circumstances, we will not share your information without your explicit written consent.
